Renaissance Festival

Not every job that comes through the shop is a cap or a polo. This one was a set of vibrant costumes for the Renaissance Festival up in San Luis Obispo — period pieces that needed embroidery bold enough to read from across a fairground.

Costume fabric behaves nothing like a structured cap. Before a single stitch runs, we test how the material moves in the hoop and choose a backing that keeps dense fill from puckering the drape. Get that wrong and a beautiful design pulls the whole garment out of shape.

The color work is where a job like this earns its keep. Vibrant means real saturation, not just bright thread — we pull spools side by side under daylight and build the palette the way the design deserves, one careful color choice at a time.

Every piece also starts with proper digitizing — mapping stitch direction and density to the fabric so the embroidery flexes with the costume instead of fighting it. It is slower than running a stock file, and it is the difference between decoration and craft.
